Overview

The Manage User Types tool allows Super Admins to view and manage all User Types for this site. These include custom User Types assigned to users when they acquire individual memberships, privileged default and custom User Types that confer administrative or editorial roles and privileges, and general custom types created to classify users in ways that are useful to the organization.

If you want to manage types used to classify and grant roles to people representing member or staff companies, use the Manage Company Administration and Contact Types tool.

If you aren't familiar with the way that roles and types are used to confer access to Kavi Members tools and other areas of the Web site, you should study the Concepts documents on Roles, Types and Access before using this tool. If you aren't certain how the different classes of types are applied, see the Concepts documents on Company Types, Company Administration and Contact Types and User Types.

Use the Manage User Types tool to:

  • View existing User Types, their description, category and any associated roles.

  • Access the Add a User Type tool to add one or more custom User Types.

  • Access the Edit a User Type tool to edit custom or default types.

  • Access the Delete a User Type tool to delete a custom User Type.

Options

View a list of existing types, plus links to tools to add, edit or delete a User Type.

The list displays the following fields:

Name

The name of the type.

Description

A short textual description of the type.

Category

The category assigned to a Company Type or User Type determines how and where the type will be displayed on tool pages. The default categories are: 'general', 'general (with membership only)', 'admin' and 'editor'.

general

This category is assigned types that are NOT acquired through membership and confer roles that grant no more than a basic level of access (if any). This excludes types that grant admininstrative or editorial roles.

general (with membership only)

This category is assigned to types that are acquired only through membership.

admin

This category is assigned to types that confer roles which grant administrative access. Types in this category should be assigned only to privileged users who need access to Admin tools.

editor

This category is assigned to types that confer roles which grant Kavi Edit access.

Associated Roles

Select zero or more roles for your new type.

Note

A type is not required to have roles associated with it. Custom types can be used as a convenient way to group users or companies according to type, and in these cases it may not be necessary to provide privileges through this type.

Auto-Assign

Select this option if you would like this type to be automatically assigned to new users who submit membership applications online. This option will also be preselected for users added through the Add a Company tool and applied by default to users added through the Upload Data tool, although administrators can override the default when adding users individually or through batch uploads.

Action

Links you can click if you want to edit or delete a type.
