Kavi® Members Help
Table of Contents
The Manage Company Types tool allows Super Admins to view and manage all Company Types for this site. These include custom Company Types assigned to companies when they acquire company memberships, custom types assigned to staff companies and general custom types created to classify companies in ways that are useful to the organization.
Kavi Members also installs one Company Type by default: Members Area Access. This type is associated with the 'member' role, which grants access to Member areas of the Web site to logged-in users.
The most significant difference between Company Types and other classes of types is the way that roles are conferred through Company Types. A role conferred through a User Type or Company Administration and Contact Type grants access privileges to a specific user. But a role can't be assigned to a company, since a company is actually an abstract entity. Companies can only exercise their membership privileges through users who belong to the company, such as company representatives, staff or administrators. When a Company Type is assigned to a company, any associated roles are inherited by all the users who belong to that company. If a Member Company is assigned the 'Members Area Access' Company Type, the company's representatives inherit the 'member' role on signup. Roles that grant administrative or editorial access are rarely associated with Company Types since it's usually better to assign these privileges to select individuals.
If you aren't familiar with the way that roles and types are used to confer access to Kavi Members tools and other areas of the Web site, you should study the Concepts documents on Roles, Types and Access before using this tool. If you aren't certain how the different classes of types are applied, see the Concepts documents on Company Types, Company Administration and Contact Types and User Types.

- Name
The name of the type.
- Description
A short textual description of the type.
- Category
-
The category assigned to a Company Type or User Type determines how and where the type will be displayed on tool pages. The default categories are: 'general', 'general (with membership only)', 'admin' and 'editor'.
- general
This category is assigned types that are NOT acquired through membership and confer roles that grant no more than a basic level of access (if any). This excludes types that grant admininstrative or editorial roles.
- general (with membership only)
This category is assigned to types that are acquired only through membership.
- admin
This category is assigned to types that confer roles which grant administrative access. Types in this category should be assigned only to privileged users who need access to Admin tools.
- editor
This category is assigned to types that confer roles which grant Kavi Edit access.
- Roles
A list of all roles associated with this type.
- Auto-Assign
Select this option if you would like this type to be automatically assigned to new companies that submit membership applications online. This option will also be preselected for companies added through the Add a Company tool and applied by default to companies added through the Upload Data tool, although administrators can override the default when adding companies individually or through batch uploads.
